The objective of this program is to enhance water flow into existing water harvesting structures across watershed regions in Tamil Nadu. It includes the removal of weeds and shrubs, desilting, and increasing the capacity of these structures through maintenance activities.
Funding Source
The program is funded by the Tamil Nadu Watershed Development Agency (TAWDEVA) through the Watershed Development Fund.
Project Area
This program covers all districts in Tamil Nadu, excluding Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Kanyakumari, and Nilgiris.
Implemented Activities
The water harvesting structures established by TAWDEVA are maintained using equipment from the Agricultural Engineering Department.
Eligibility
Eligible structures are located in 5,010 watershed areas covered under the Drought-Prone Areas Program (DPAP), the Integrated Watershed Development Program (IWDP), and the Integrated Watershed Management Program (IWMP).
Maintenance work is carried out on selected water harvesting structures approved by the District Collector and executed by the district-level committee within the respective financial year.
